Why now
AI changes how work gets done, and where people need to focus.
People no longer need to work directly in code. They need to understand plans, reports, specs, handoff notes, and other docs.
Most project files were not made for reading. A focused document layer keeps reviews clear.
MD+HTML Reader turns generated Markdown and HTML into a calm place to review before the next handoff.
FAQ
Questions people ask first
Clear answers about local files, privacy, and when this reader is better than opening another editor tab.
Is this a Markdown HTML reader for Mac?
Yes. MD+HTML Reader is a local-first Markdown HTML reader for Mac. It opens local project folders, filters .md, .markdown, .html, and .htm files, renders Markdown read-only, and previews HTML artifacts in a sandboxed reader.
Why not just use Codex, VS Code, a browser, or a normal Markdown app?
Codex and VS Code are built for working with every type of project file, not just docs: source code, dependencies, build artifacts, and other noise. MD+HTML Reader is better for document review: it filters a project folder down to readable Markdown and HTML, renders the output read-only, and keeps recent docs close.
What file types and previews are supported?
It reads local Markdown and HTML files. Markdown is rendered with outline and Mermaid diagram support, and HTML is previewed in a sandboxed reader with local CSS support. These are currently the main AI-generated document formats people need to review. If that changes, we will add support for new file types so the reader keeps up with new human-AI collaboration patterns.
What does it help with in AI coding workflows?
AI agents often create plans, specs, reports, release notes, flowcharts, and other Markdown docs, plus HTML artifacts across a repo. MD+HTML Reader gives those files one calm place to be checked before the next prompt, commit, or handoff.
Does MD+HTML Reader upload my documents?
Document content is read locally only and is never uploaded. Documents open from local folders on your Mac; document content, local paths, and file names are not uploaded or read by the server.
Will it edit, move, or rewrite my project files?
No. The reader is intentionally read-only, so you can inspect generated docs without changing source files by accident.
Who is it best for?
It is built for developers, indie builders, product people, and technical writers who use tools like Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, Trae, Gemini CLI, or any workflow that produces many project docs.
Any productivity tips for using it well?
Recent viewed and modified docs, search, live refresh, reading history, and keyboard shortcuts help you return to the right document without digging through the project tree, so you can quickly review multiple documents from a recent development task.
Is it only for AI-generated docs?
No. It works with ordinary Markdown and HTML too, but the product is tuned for the messy folder structure created by AI-assisted product and coding work.
Can I use it for free?
Yes. New installs start with a 30-day free trial, and invite rewards can extend it further. After that, paid access is required, but the price is intentionally low.
Is there a Windows or Linux version?
The current app is for macOS. Windows and Linux versions are not available yet.
